Proposal:
The company required the fumes from the welding processes to be extracted safely from the premises. They only required one extraction system with six points of extraction. All points of extraction will need to be In use at the same time.
- Two extraction points for the welding process in the clean room.
- Two extraction points at a low level in the clean room for any argon that is pooling on the floor.
- One extraction point for the welding process in each of the two welding bays.
The HSE have stated – By law you must protect your workers by controlling the health risks from welding fume. This applies to specialist welders and workers who do some welding, no matter how small the amount.
What Arms and hoods Vent-Tech Used
Due to the client’s process requirements, we installed 3 x Geovent 3m wing arms and 1 x 4m Geovent wing arm. The arms have 3 stable self-adjusting friction couplings, which ensures that the extraction arm is kept in the wanted position making them user-friendly, from our experience this is one of the reasons welders opt not to use their supplied LEV system due to difficulty positioning the arm. The selected length and easy use made it possible for the welders to reach all areas where welding will be carried out.
Inline Filter
Due to welding producing a particulate within the fume we have installed a Geovent inline filter called a Geodust. The filter box is executed in polyester-coated and galvanized steel. The Effective filter area: 0.22 m2 with separation efficiency: 85%v.0,3μm(Eu3) or 95% v. 0,3μm(Eu5). The filter is installed to remove the majority of the particulate from the air stream, this will help keep the ductwork clean and protect the life of the fan. This will also reduce the amount of particles being discharged into our atmosphere.
Discharge stack
We have also discharged the air via a vertical stack that terminates 3m above the roof line with a jet to ensure the discharge velocity is high enough to penetrate the boundary layer and ensure the contaminant is safely dispersed with no chance of causing a secondary exposure source.
