Vent-Tech Approached to Review Revised COSHH Approved Code of Practice

June 19, 2013

The HSE recently announced the start of an industry consultation on a revised Code of Practice (ACOP) for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002.  The consultation period runs from 3rd June until 23rd August 2013.

Vent Tech has been asked by BOHS, The Chartered Society for Workers Health Protection to review the consultation document and provide feedback for inclusion within a formal response by them to the Health & Safety Executive as part of the process.

The main changes included in the revised code are detailed by HSE as follows:

  • Revision of the text to make it easier for duty holders to understand and comply with their legal duties;
  • Revision of the text to take account of the introduction of REACH and Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation (CLP);
  • Moving information on the principles of good control practice from an annexe to the guidance associated with Regulation 7;
  • Clarification of the requirements of Regulation 9, relating to thorough examination and test of control measures.

Vent Tech’s Managing Director, Adrian Sims, who will be completing the review said of the request “These changes have the potential to directly impact on a number of areas relating to LEV Systems and come at a time when there are a number of other important changes taking place within the industry.  We will, therefore, be reviewing the proposed changes with interest.”

Full details of the consultation process and the how to get involved can be found on the HSE website.
